Net Zero Homes

The secret to the low-carbon super green home of the future is that it is pretty simple really.

You will need:

  1. A heat pump
  2. Some insulation (if required)
  3. Solar (where possible)

Heat pumps

They use electricity to make hot water which can go in normal radiators, underfloor heating systems ooil r supply your bath, shower and taps. Alternatively they can make warm air to directly heat your home. They do it in a way which is smarter than old fashioned electric heaters, instead of using electricity to directly heat water or air they collect energy from outside and 'pump' it into your house.

Heat pumps are better than normal electric heating because they use about 1/3rd of the electricity to supply the same amount of warmth.

Heat pumps are better than gas and oil boilers because they can make use of the renewable energy that is supplying an increasing amount of the electricity to our grid
